Resolved Question: What is the cheapest kind of pet insurance?

I'm looking for some pet insurance that will cover things like kennel cough. I have 3 dogs and 2 have been exposed to it once already and may be exposed to it again because we adopted another puppy from the shelter. We already lost one puppy from it so we are looking for some insurance we can afford.  more

Resolved Question: Pitbull vs Landlord...PLZ HELP ASAP!!!?

We purchased a pitbull puppy the other day because our lease says we are allowed dogs and only need to sign some paper through our landlord. So I called my landlord to say we got a puppy and ask what paperwork needs to be signed. Prepared to offer the deposit and first month "pet rent", we were shot down, being told that she would be dropped from her insurance if a pitbull is living on the property.... I do not want to get rid of a dog that my family has already grown so fond of. This is the smartest and friendliest dog ever. My insurance says they can cover the dog as far as attacks AND the rental property damage, if any. I need to know do you think if I have this then the landlords insurance will have any problem with it? I dont understand, because they would not be liable and have to pay, mine would. Any information or resources would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Terrable facts... "For every human in the United States, there are 3 pitbulls in a shelter." "Over 10,000 pitbulls are killed in shelters every year." "Pitbulls are one of top 10 smartest dogs." "PITBULLS ARE ONLY AGGRESSIVE IF TAUGHT TO BE, AND NOT WELL SOCIALIZED AS PUP.... AND IF THE OWNERS ARE IRRESPONSIBLE AND INEXPERIENCED!!" ...Since it doesnt protect the lanlord, but only me, what if I add a my landlord to my policy? Its a house...I rent the basement, and the neighbors have the main floor.  more

Voting Question: Has anyone else dealt with a really judgmental midwife?

Ok, this woman is a trip. This is our first baby. I got her because she is like the only one available in this town with my insurance and stuff yada yada yada. But she has hurt my feelings so bad. My fiance and I are low on money and some appointments with them are far away so I began asking to reschedule because it's hard to get money for gas sometimes cause I've been having to go far frequently. Now she is telling me that I should go take my newly pregnant self to a shelter that is close to the hospital and stay there. I don't want to do that my baby and I have a family here with my fiance and his parents. My man doesn't have a job yet but he is working on that and gets social security and helps me when he can. I have a job, but of course I'm on maternity leave right now. And more embarassing, she's telling me now that she thinks our house is dirty and saying that she noticed that my clothes or something smell, and I take showers like everyday, and clean my clothes. We have pets, that might be part of the reason, but all in all she is making me feel so worthless as a potential mother and I am doing everything that I can. She ended our conversation today with do you want to give your baby up for adoption? and do you want child protective services to take you away? It's not that easy to find a job around here where I live, and I know my fiance is trying. I mean, sure he likes to play video games sometimes and sleep in late, but I understand because this is his first baby so he doesn't really understand it all yet. He wants to be involved, he's really excited about our new daughter and says he will do everything to make us happy. Please, can someone tell me that I'm not the only one who has gone through, or is going through this, and maybe give me some advice as to what I can do or what i can say in such a situation? My baby is due on the 13th of April and my fiance is so angry with this woman and basically so am I. I don't know how much more I can do right now, but i will do anything that is possible to try and work things out. I'm sorry this is so long, but I would really appreciate some help and advice.  more

Resolved Question: Please read, about my Border Collie and I?

Ok, I want your opinions, and reasons as to why you think this will, or will not work. Very nasty comments WILL be reported. I bought a Border Collie out of my own money. I will be paying for her vet fees, getting her spayed, adding to the food money weekly, I have bought her brushes, combs, toys (shampoos when the time is right), bowls, mats, cage, leashes, collars, blankets, bed, wipes, treats, I don't think I have missed anything off, but I can assure you its totalled up to an awful lot of money. I paid the petrol money for going to buy her and I will be adding to pet insurance (I get quite a bit of pocket money which I have worked out this will be contributed to - with spare 'backup money' if you like. (I am on my mom's account - don't have one of my own, I'm 16, nearly 17 years old), but the dog is more mine even though she's the family dog. I take her out for 'toilet', I taught her to sit, I taught her her name, and my mom has joined in helping me. My collie is only 8 weeks and 5 days old, so she has to get up early mornings for the toilet and I go down and see to her. Me and my mom take turns at getting her out and seeing to her daily (today it was me, tommorrow morning, my mom etc). I feed her when. Right now she is in the house with just me. We are safe as we lock the front door, don't have the TV on so people can't see inside and shut the blinds so nobody can see in that way either. We have a seven foot fence in the back yard on all 3 sides. The fourth side being the house. So I KNOW me and my pup are safe. She isn't old enough to go out yet. When she is, I know a safe place I can walk her. I get there by going along main roads, and it is behind an animal shelter which gives permission to walk on their land and along the road that they own with other dog owners and staff at the shelters, so there are always adults around who are trustworthy. Schools are off at the moment, but when I go back, I have a routine that we can follow which allows me to play with my puppy and also do all my revision. Being in the last grade I have lots of this. The routine will be the same for collage in the future. When I am at school my mom will be caring for the puppy. When she's older, other then the route I established before, there are other places for walks and playing, we have a large field about 10 seconds down the path, so once she learns her name 100% and is 100% ready to be off leash, she can run freely. There are no roads near my home. My back yard is large, my front yard is medium. Our house is medium. We also have a cat who I care for who our puppy totally ignores. I am a first time dog owner. Only my cousins have dogs as not all of my family likes dogs. I know how demanding any dog is, never mind a Border Collie. I know of obediance classes and puppy play-groups I can attend, and I know that a Border Collie can even out-wit the most intellengent dog owners. I am 120% prepared for her. I have spare money for emergencies, and my mom is ready for her too. I know this is extremly long, but lots of people have told me I am doing the wrong thing. Please tell me what you think, I have tried to include as much as I can.  more

Resolved Question: What arrangement should I make for my dogs if something should happen to me?

I hear many times of pets going to a shelter because something happened to their owners. I don't want that to happen to my pets. I don't have a lot but I do have a house and a life insurance policy on myself & my husband. More than enough to take care of any needs they might have for the rest of their lives. I was thinking of setting up a trust anyway. I don't have any kids to leave anything to. Should I set it up so the 2 dogs, 1 cat & 1 horse get everything until they pass away then distribute what is left over to my family? Or should I distribute to the family and set aside a set amount for the pets. If so, how much? And should the balance after the pets pass go to family or donated to an animal rescue/retirement? I would also like to know what arrangements have you made in case something happens. BTW. I do have one sister whom I can trust to follow my wishes.  more

Voting Question: can the bank's be mandated /legislated to list out gems and jeweleries be kept in the vault by the customers ?

The secrecy in this regards only encourages corrupts , BAD MAN , croocks , GOONs , and TERRORISTS . They keep RDX , AMMONIUM NITRATES , GRENADES , BOMBS ETC ETC in the nearest BANK'S lockers . Banks are greedy and happily become the abetor of the heinous crimes . Bank lockers are safest haven for the ill- gotton wealth by the CEOs as well as the numerous govt servant. In fact these lockers act as the commodity exchanges where lethal , incriminating documents are clean exchanged. Why the so called intelligentia , the academics , home grown industrialists speak no ills about this aspect as they themselves are the defaulters in some way or others . Banks come the best second only to religious institutions which act as the SWISS BANKS in India . What is the necessity to protect ill-gotton undeclared wealth of the DON/MAFIA/TERRORISTS/POLITICIANS /BUREAUCRATS /RAJA/MAHARAJA/NAWABS/CHHOTE NAWABS by the police , security agencies at the govt cost ( BANKS are protected by the local police ). Mere candle lights by the page 3 and their pet dogs is not sufficient. If we wish to fight terror we must fight the enemy within first. The enemy has the secured shelters in the forms of religious institutions and banks' safety vaults . We must ammend laws of the land if needed to compel declarations as well as physical verification of the wealth being kept inside the lockers. Insurance giants or LILiPUTs will do well to raise this issue thrrough some friendly member of the legislative assembly/parliament so that customers make a bee line to insure their wealth or risks theft by the banking official themselves. I see lots of chidish answers to my serious questions .Can there be a mechanism in yahoo answer to segregate wise and the novice !!!  more

Resolved Question: Thailand-I was a missionary there for a while. Any bad or good experiences to share?

My worst was monkey ball soup and rat rolled up with hot peppers in a large green leaf for my 18th birthday party. My best experience was holy communion at the refugee camp with baked bread and the drink was bottled for the missionaries for health concerns. All of their water at the time had parasites floating in it that you could see. They were having a fresh water supply being installed by missionaries with a small baby. There was also a leprosy camp where they make quilts to support themselves. The quilts were amazing. The leprosy had to be the worst physical problem that I have ever seen. The experience changed my life. I was only 18 years old. I played with two toddlers that were naked and only had a brick as a toy. I talked in Thai to a very elderly woman who cooked in a wok on a sidewalk to provide for her food and shelter day by day. When I walked away after receiving a hug and a kiss, she was beaming with a sweet smile. Living in the inner city in Houston, TX later was almost the same. On the weekend, especially Friday nights---I could see from the upper floor windows open pit cooking of some kind of animal that I never was sure what it was. You always kept your pet with you or they would eat it. Survival with illegal aliens everywhere with 25 people in one small house is almost like a refugee camp when you see how they live for three years. I lived thru both, and learned survival. I had to learn martial arts as a young fair skinned blonde -the only one around-living alone for awhile. I am just a preacher's kid from Mississippi and Memphis that was startled to see the real world of survival. Any experiences out there? What food have you seen people eat to survive? What have you eaten? I have eaten a lot of pineapple and cooked rice(not cooked maggots!). One night in the emergency room in the largest charity hospital in Houston,TX with hundreds of illegal aliens where the man next to me had a broken arm where his bone at the elbow to his wrist was sticking straight up out of his flesh---where he waited over 7 hours for his turn. Then, I was after him. The layers of filth on his skin where innumerable. I am not preaching about illegal aliens, I am just sharing what I lived for three years here in the USA. It was like the twilight zone. I sure am thankful now for health insurance. I was without for a short period after COBRA after a divorce. I am sure there are many experiences for women especially out there with health insurance problems after COBRA runs out. And COBRA isn't free, you still have premiums. However, no insurance opened up a world to me of what people do just to survive bad health issues and especially pregnancy... Please share your experiences!.........  more

Resolved Question: i've got some cat questions?

ok over the last couple of weeks ive been asking lots of questions about adopting cats. i have some more! i want to adopt a cat but my dad thinks it will use its teeth to rip up furniture since it doesn't have claws (the cat i want is declawed already) my dad is also worried about smell. do cats smell real bad? what can i do to keep my apartment from smelling bad? i live in the lewisville, tx area what vet clinics do u recomend? And what affordable insurance do you use that you can rely on? also the cat im adopting will be strictly an indoor cat, how many times should i take it to the vet for check ups and vaccinations ect. also when you go on trips and you cant take your cat with you where does your cat stay? if it stays in a kennel or something about how much money will it cost? so srry! last question. im really nervous about this cat. i have never owned a cat. im really worried that i will mess up some how and my dad will take it back to the animal shelter. i have handled animals before but never a cat or dog. ive been around them and i have interacted with em but i dont know how they are when they are part of your everyday life. so my last question to you is have you ever regreted getting a cat? is it hard to take care of it? is there something i should take caution of or worry about before getting a 3 year old siamese cat? im only 13 and as far as pets i have only had a hamster and a bunny and a few other small pets but nothing as big as cats.  more

Resolved Question: Is a cat a good pet to have when living alone? how much does it cost to get set up? and is this a good idea?

I am moving out at 18 (2 years) so I am savings from 16-18 and judging by furniture cost/deposit of rent cost vs savings ill have plenty left over incase of an emergency :). So anyway how much does it cost to get set up with... Beds? Jabs? Bowls? Insurance? Also is this a good idea. I have 11 rats atm, Love them but I think most will have passed away by im 18 because they have a rather short lifespan:( and if they are alive I will have to keep them at dads and just pop-up to look after them. But either way if I got 2 baby rats, and a kitten near enough the same time, will it help the kitten and rats bond? as I did this with my lurcher and she gives them kisses, never hurts them. Please don't say "recue one from the shelter" even though I would love to because... 1) I want a KITTEN I can have for sevral years and bond with from the very beginning 2) an older cat will kill the rats str8 away BUT how  more

Resolved Question: Are Lower Adoption Fees a Good Solution? ?

The HSUS says that 3-4 million animals are killed in shelters each year. Another study says that 2 million of these are dogs. I've seen people on here complaining about how the adoption fees at shelters are too high. That a 'loving home' should be enough to get a dog from a shelter. My question - should it be? 1. Say the dog gets sick in 2 years and the new 'loving home' can't afford vet care. Is 2 years of happiness better than having been euthanized? 2. Should a shelter lower the adoption fee if someone can prove annual pet insurance on the dog? How would it be enforced? 3. Would lowering the adoption fee actually get more dogs out of the shelters? Or would it be the same because the second the dog gets sick, it will be back in the shelter? Thanks!  more

Resolved Question: Will pet insurance limit the number of dogs& cats 9years old+ in shelter/pounds of finding new homes for them?

I looked into pet insurance for my dog, she was 9 at the time and they DO NOT cover anything at that age, FOr me it was a waste of money to apply for pet insurance Will this make more people go for the puppy & kitten stage of 8weeks old, rather then considering an older dog or cat? it says most policy with pet insurance start at 8weeks old.  more

Resolved Question: How much does your shelter charge per dog, and what does this fee cover?

Since I've adopted Judge adoption fees have gone up by $25. But it still isn't that bad. Voting Question: Can I sue the seller?

I purchased a chihuahua from 2 people who I met at an animal shelter. They provided me her shot record from that shelter and some puppy food she was eating. Unfortunately, the dog turned out to have a congenital disease (not covered by my pet insurance) which had to be surgically fixed (it was a knee problem). When I contacted them, they said there was nothing they could do and that they were not responsible after the sale because it was now my property. Can I sue for a refund of the dog's price? (the surgery was 3x the value). There was no contract signed at the time of purchase. I am keeping the pup. Consumers are protected by lemon laws against breeders who should have their dogs checked. Not sure about where the average person falls in this scheme. Also fish do not cost over $300.  more

Resolved Question: is there a charity that helps?

lower income families adopt and keep dogs? Like give them dogfood, toys, and help pay the vet bills? I have a school project that requires me to come up with a charity that I would like to start. I thought this would be a good idea so more dogs get homes and more families will get to experience the love and joy a pet can bring. What do you think? Does this already exist? Oh, and they don't actually get cash, they only get the supplies and the charity will pay the vet directly, or maybe just a portion like with insurance. And they will have to have to be approved to get the pet-just like when you adopt from a shelter. Anyway thanks for any constructive feedback. who said anything about cig. & beer, not all lower income people smoke and drink beer-just like not all Y!A users are moronic ********, just some, but I'm not naming names  more

Resolved Question: Insurance for a dog with a heart murmur?

Hi. My fiance and I adopted a male Min Pin Mix from the pound about 4 months ago. He just got diagnosed with a Heart Murmur (Aortic Insufficiency), and will likely require corrective surgery. Seeing as we are facing a couple of thousand dollars in vet bills, we were wondering if we could still sign him up for Pet Insurance. Will they take him with a preexisting problem? Or, does the dog just need 1 checkup saying he is in good health in order to get on a plan? My vet and the shelter vet both missed the murmur until I caught it, so could I just take him to a newbie and get the form I need? The murmur is pretty obvious if you know what to look for. I am a medical student and was able to catch it the first time I listened to it. The vets probably didn't pay too much attention @ the time of examination, but once I pointed it out, the 2nd vet thought it may require surgery. I am waiting for an ultrasound next week, but the pup is already showing sign like increased urine output and fatigue on exertion. You can actually feel thrills from the regurgitation through his chest.  more

Resolved Question: Does anyone know about how much this will cost?

HI, I have a male dog, he is about 12 years old. {We never really knew how old he was, we bought him at the shelter}. I want to really get this done, but, I need some idea about how much it will cost. I am a single mother, so, I have to wait for about 1 more week before I can call the vet, because I will be getting some money back from my tax's. He has a hernia, at least, that's what it seems to be to me. His one gonad is very large, but, he is in pretty good health. So does anyone think that he won't be ok if he has to go under for this? I love him, he is part of my family. He goes everywhere with me. And, do they sell pet insurance, I thought I've heard of it before, but have'nt been able to find it. I just want to say thank you to all the good people you are. You all have helped out so much. It will be very hard to choose the best answer, most all of them are great. I never dreamed of cancer, I really hope not. Pray for the little guy, I will call the vet. bye.  more

Resolved Question: how long should i keep hold of a lost dog i have found before keeping/rehoming?

we found the dog yesterday. i have done the following to try to locate the rightful owners: walk the dog round the area it was found in for visibility, and ask passersby / dog walkers if they recognise the dog; post a 'found' advert in local shops; check at vets to see if it is microchipped; left details with all local vets; contacted local animal welfare shelters; contacted RSPCA; contacted dog warden; reported the dog lost to the police and got an incident number; reported dog as found on missingpetsbureau.com; reported dog as found on dogshome.org; reported dog as found on a national lost and found pets registry. my next consideration is contacting the big pet insurance providers like petplan and directline to say its been found..... the dog is living with us in our home at present. all organisations were happy that this was the situation. how long should i leave it before looking at rehoming the dog/keping it as our own if the owners dont come forward? the good news is, the owners came forward today and we were able to reunite "bonnie" with her family after they showed us a photo of the dog and were able to describe her collar. their little girl was missing her very much, so i would think they are very pleased to have her back!  more

I know this sounds kind of stupid but,my old dogs name was sugar and she ran away almost a year ago.The poodles name is Sugar and i feel like it might be a sign that she is meant to be my dog  more

Resolved Question: 1yr old Boxer with issues!!!!!!?

My friend has a 1 yr old boxer, she is very sweet and well behaved, HOWEVER, she started having issues with her digestive system all of a sudden and he could not figure what was wrong with her. As he does not currently have Pet Insurance he is worried that if he takes her to the vet it will end up being something that he can not afford to pay for. So here is my question, are there any KNOWN digestive issues with the Boxer Breed. Or has any one experienced this with the boxer and may be able to offer some home remeadies that may work for her. ****NOTE - for some reason she doesn't really eat alot, she drinks ALOT of water. She normally will eat once in the afternoon or evening, but will not touch her food when left out for her in the morning. I am trying to help him out and avoid him sending her to the rescue shelter - so any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. ****Update***** So I would agree with those of you that say he should not be so quick to get rid of her due to illness. That is why I am out here trying to see what it could be. I plan on calling some of the Vets in our area today to see if/when someone will be able to see her. And I will help him foot the bill. I couldnt stand to think of her having to go to a shelter - since I love her like she was a family member :(  more

Resolved Question: Getting a Puppy Questions?

I plan on getting a puppy within the next month or so and have a couple of questions. I don't have a specific breed in mind, but would rather just adopt or purchase a mixed breed. Would shelters be the only good place to go look for adoptable puppies? Or are the websites I come across advertising adoptable puppies a good idea too? Should I get pet insurance? What kind of pet insurance do you have? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! :)  more

Resolved Question: housing wild animals -serious info needed?

This is a serious question, I would appreciate serious answers and suggestions. My neighbor moved onto an acreage expecting to be there the rest of his life. He has legally obtained two bobcats and a timberwolf. He takes extremely good care of them. However finances and circumstances are now requiring that he move. Does anyone have suggestions as to how/where he can continue to house his animals? He has tried to get local animal shelters to allow him to house them temporarily till he gets back on his feet. He is willing (and wanting) to continue feeding and caring for them there and is even willing to volunteer his time with the other animals there, but for whatever reasons (insurance or whatever) the shelters can't or won't help out. Not many landlords will allow such pets, so renting has not turned out too well either. Ideally, someone would be willing to invest in the property (assume the mortgage) and rent to him and a roommate. What are other avenues that he might pursue?  more

Resolved Question: concerned about neighbor's new dog...Follow up?

I posted this question several weeks back. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=A0WTc6FH1A9H_GQA_xzsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20070919103342AAdWlWI Just wanted to report that the feeble minded neighbor left the pitts out in the rain without shelter. They crawled under the house and escaped. They attacked a neighbor's cat and another neighbor's dog. The dogs are now in the pound. The owner knows, but is not going to pick them up because he will owe fines and be required to get them spayed as well as build a pen for them and get insurance. I am sure he doesn't want to be responsible for the vet bill incurred by the pets that were hurt. I am not anti pit. I am, however, anti stupid people getting dogs when they don't know how to care for them! Thank you for your previous suggestions on how to deal with this!  more

Resolved Question: Which pet insurance for my kitten?

I just adopted a 4 month old kitten from the shelter and would like to get pet insurance for him. The shelter gave out info on both PurrfectPetinsurance (groupvsurance.com) and Shelter Care Pet insurance. Does anybody have any experience with these companies , good or bad? Also, do you have a company you strongly recommend?  more

Resolved Question: Help! Should I keep this sick little kitty and hope for the best or bring her back to the shelter?

Two and a half weeks ago, I purchased a four month old kitten from a shelter. I brought the kitten home only to find out that she has severe diarrehea, a respiratory issue (sneezes lots, breathes funny at times) and conjuctivitis. I brought her to the vet (which ended up not being covered under "complimentary" pet insurance as it was supposed to) spent a hundred dollars on medications and now she is still sick! Should I bring her back to the shelter? Though I love this cat, I can't afford another sick cat (my cat died this year after I spent so much time and effort to help her survive). What would you do??? Just wanted to add, yes the cat was sick from the day I got it and so I am assuming it was sick at the shelter. This lady has like fourty cats so there would be no way she could tell. I did here a funny gurgling sound when I first picked her up and said "Does this cat have respiratory problems?" and the lady said no. Also, every time this cat is in the litter box, she swats it over and over again. Anyone know what that means??  more

Resolved Question: Pet Insurance?

We have decided to go to the local shelter next weekend and the pound and see if we can find our new family member there. I seen a few on petfinder.com that I would like to meet and see if any of them are a good fit for us. I have located a vet already that was recommended by a rescue group. Now I am wondering about pet insurance. I know some say it is a good idea, but which one is the best. I am located in Ohio.  more

Resolved Question: Why would you get a pet if you can't afford to take care of it?

It happens everyday...I mean, it happens a LOT. People bring in a sick pet, often with no vaccinations, often with something eminently preventable like heartworm disease, Often with a huge horrible tumor that they claim "Just showed up yesterday.". I've worked at the cheapest vet in town and now I work at a more expensive one..and everytime this happens people act like I'm a bad person because I can't work for free. As often as this happens I'd be broke. I DO work for free at the local shelter and S.P.C. A, but I don't work for free for any pet with an owner. I can help with payment plans and I take pet insurance. But people complain about vet bills, even at the cheap vet! It's the Pet owners responsibility to take care of the pet. Why blame the Vet because you adopted an animal and now it's sick? I mean, The Vet didn't give it cancer...cripes. Losing faith in Humanity... (The Cheap Vet was in tulsa, and I'm not going to give out the info on the web... They were fully 1/3rd as expensive as where I am now. I left because "cheap" is just that. There was so much raw volume, nearly 5-600 people a day, that I felt our quality was suffering. I couldn't call people back to check on them. Also I had to share one tech with 3 doctors and couldn't research each case..there were 300 more in the lobby. Seriously, get Veterinary PEt Insurance and find someone you like, and stick with them. Low cost is not the way most want to go, not really, unless you want to wait for 2 hours in the lobby. Unless you want your new puppy next to one dying of distemper. Anyway, I'm getting a lot off my chest. LOL.)  more

Resolved Question: Dog with Hip Dysplasia.-?

A year ago we adopted a smooth coat Collie from a shelter. We named him Buddy. He's 1 year old. Inmediately we got pet insurance for him. Yesterday we found out he has hip dysplasia and the vet's only solution is surgery. The cost for the surgery is $8,400.00, which for us is just out of the question. We love him very much, but we just cannot afford this amount of money. We are waiting to see what the insurance will cover, but I would like to know if anyone knows of any organization or fund that helps, financially, owners that cannot afford this kind of surgery to their dog. Or does anyone knows of any other treatment that could help my precious Buddy!!!  more

Resolved Question: If we had the equivalent of the NHS for our pets, there would be so many animals stuck in rescue shelters etc?

Do you think, if the vets had a service a bit like the NHS services, there would be so many unwanted, stray animals roamimg the streets? I know that the PDSA, RSPCA and more organisations help pay vet bills if you claim benefits form the Department of Working Benefits, but usually you need to register with the charity before you need the vets, otherwise they wont help towards the cost of the bill. I had both my dogs insured, and after 5years of never using the insurance, i cancelled it....but a few months later my golden labrador had an emergency cesarean, costing £815 which i had to pay even though im a single parent but i hadnt applied to the pdsa 1st! i paid it weekly, which i dont mind cos i love my dogs. Some people are given an animal, without considering how much it might end up costing, then if it needs the vet & there is no money to pay the bill, the animal suffers,or often dumped, tortured or just killed! If there was a free service would there be as many stray animals? i'm not sure, but i dont think the blue cross help towards paying vets bills? i think they have there own medical centres which isnt bad if you live close to one, but if you have an emergency and you dont have insurance or you havent registered with pdsa etc is what i mean! the blue cross do a great job, but in rehoming the animals. sarah c is making lots of sense! my youngest son has asthma, we are lucky that it isnt as severe as other people, i had all my floors done in laminate flooring, as that reduces a lot of trouble with people who suffer with asthma & pet hair, i know its not so simple with all levels of asthma. look at how much money the national lottery spend each week, the money that they donate-revamping football stadiums etc...they could always put some money to wards something like this? I know not everyone loves animals, and accept their point that they shouldnt need to pay towards the health etc of someone elses animal, but i could use the same attitude as i play the national lottery but dont see why the money should be used revamping football stadiums as i dont watch football...surely the price of a ticket to watch football should cover the revamp?!! And the cheaper vet idea would help towards major procedures and any vet work, not pay of the bill completely.  more
